About The National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America when the Continental Congress issued a proclamation setting aside a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

Mission

The National Day of Prayer Task Force's mission is to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, mobilizing the Christian community to intercede for America and its leadership in the seven centers of authority and influence: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church, and Family.

National Day of Prayer 2009

The 58th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 7, 2009. Millions will unite in prayer as thousands of events will take place from coast to coast. The theme for this year is "Prayer... America's Hope" and is based on the verse from Psalm 33:22 which states: "May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you."

About The Storehouse

The Storehouse is a prayer and mission base for Madison/Huntsville, Alabama area. The Storehouse is but one expression of the movement of the Holy Spirit throughout the world to renew and equip the church to be keepers of the two greatest commandments: to love God with all our being and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31).

Jesus prayed that his followers would be united as one. "May (my disciples) be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me." (John 17:23) It is the heart of the storehouse ministry to demonstrate the unity of the Body of Christ to strength local churches.

As demonstrated many times throughout history, a new work of God is initiated through believers who cry out to the Lord day and night (Luke 18:7). Through music, the word, and prayer, intercessory worshippers seek the face of the Lord and yearn for the powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is through this anointing that Christ followers are equipped to live sacrificial and lovingly the life of Jesus in a darkening world.

In the summer of 1980, the Israeli Parliament declared the city of Jerusalem to be the undivided, eternal capital of the State of Israel, established as such by King David almost 3,000 years earlier. Protest resounded across the international political spectrum, resulting in the closure of thirteen national embassies in Jerusalem. A number of Christians living in Israel sensed Israel's deep hurt over the withdrawal of the foreign embassies and felt called to open a Christian Embassy in Jerusalem that became known as the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem as it represents Christians from around the world, speaking words of comfort and support to Israel.

Diplomacy of Love
The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem was founded in 1980 by Christians from around the world as an act of solidarity with the Jewish people's 3,000-year-old claim and connection to Jerusalem. Today the Christian Embassy represents millions of believers from over 125 countries who share a love and concern for Israel and the Jewish people, with active representation in nearly 80 nations. Some 50 full-time staff serve in our Jerusalem headquarters coming from over a dozen countries and speaking many different languages. We invite you to consider us as your Embassy in Jerusalem.

Work and Witness
T
he Embassy's work and witness is founded on the mandate of Isaiah 40:1, "Comfort, comfort my people" For more than 25 years the ICEJ has been reaching out in practical ways to the people of Israel, while seeking to inform, educate and inspire Christians round the world to stand against the rising tide of hostility and anti-Semitism directed against the Jewish State. Our Ministry spans four distinct areas, to Comfort Israel, Educate the Church, Celebrate God’s faithfulness, and Confront anti-Semitism.

Malcolm Hedding
ICEJ Executive Director

In November 2000, the Reverend Malcolm Hedding was appointed the Executive Director of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem after serving as an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God of South Africa for 25 years. Malcolm has a long relationship and love for Jerusalem and Israel. From 1986 to 1989, he served in Jerusalem as ICEJ Chaplain, and on the pastoral staff of the Jerusalem Christian Assembly, now the King of Kings Assembly.

Upon his return to South Africa in 1989, Malcolm founded the Olive Tree Assembly of God in Durban. He has been a seminar teacher and plenary speaker at the ICEJ's annual Christian Celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem and at other Embassy-sponsored events. He has also been an active member of the ICEJ Association, and traveled extensively as a "spokesman" of the ministry at the invitation of the international branches.

In February 2001, Malcolm was invited to chair the 4th Christian Congress on Biblical Zionism in Jerusalem, having been heralded as one of the foremost Zionist theologians in Christianity, with a profound understanding of Israel's role in Eschatology. Since 1991 he has also served as Chairman of "Christian Action for Israel", a biblical Zionist organization.

Malcolm lives with his wife Cheryl in Jerusalem. They have three children, and three grandchildren.

Christian Advocates for Israel (CAFI)
www.CAFI-Web.org

In a time of growing international hostility toward Israel and the Jewish people - with international leaders publicly calling the holocaust a myth, stating their intent to wipe Israel off the map, and denying any historical Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, Jerusalem, or the Holy Land - there is a growing desire among many in the Christian community to stand as an advocate for Israel and the Jewish people in this volatile time.

A coalition continues to grow in the Greater Huntsville and North Alabama Christian community with a heart to honor Israel and the Jewish people for the heritage received, and explore opportunities of practical advocacy in prayer and intercession, in humanitarian relief, in community outreach, and in governmental and political advocacy, in this time when such anti-semitic rhetoric grows louder and bolder.

    Downtown Rescue Mission (DRM) - Opportunity and Support

    From: Pat Mcllelan [pat@downtownrescuemission.org]
    Sent: Wednesday, April 8, 2009 2:57:39 PM
    Subject: DRM Opportunity

    On June 5th, Downtown Rescue Mission will be hosting a golf tournament at The Highlands at Hampton Cove called the Downtown Rescue Mission 2009 Golf Challenge. The money raised will support the programs offered by Downtown Rescue Mission who, for over 30 years, has been The Tennessee Valley’s place of refuge for people who are homeless and struggling to find their way in life.

    Why is the Downtown Rescue Mission important to our community? In 1975 when the DRM first opened their doors, they ministered mainly to older men who were chronic alcoholics. That is no longer the case today.

    • Statewide in Alabama, 5,391 people were homeless on any given night in 2007
    • Approximately 2,180 of the state’s homeless were chronic substance abusers; 403 of them were victims of domestic violence.
    • The chronically homeless totaled 1,027.
    • There were 974 homeless veterans in the state on any given night.
    • The average length of homelessness for those surveyed was 11.1 months.
    • There average age was 35.6 years, with ages ranging from 1 to 73.

    There are many reasons DRM is important, but I believe the most significant is found in the organization’s mission statement: The Downtown Rescue Mission is to provide the spiritual and physical needs of the homeless by providing food, shelter and education to break the cycle of homelessness.

    All funds raised from the tournament will go to support Downtown Rescue Mission programs, which include but are not limited to:

    • Serving 3 meals a day to the homeless, in 2008 we served over 200,000 meals;
    • We give away more than 2000 food boxes annually to families in our community, that are struggling to stay in their homes;
    • Our beds will be slept in more than 70,000 times each year and 4,700 of those times children under twelve will be sleeping in them along with their Mom’s;
    • DRM distributes more than 21,000 pieces of free clothing through the Agape Clothing Shop, which helps about 9,000 people yearly;
    • Each year, 70-90 men and women complete our “Seven Steps to Success” program;
    • We will put, an average, 175 families a year in their own homes and help with furnishings;
    • In May, we will begin our in-house “GED program” and our “Road To Success” work program for our residents and eventually our community, which will do even more to “break the cycle of homelessness”;
    • In the fall we will begin our intramural sports program for our guests and a community-wide sports program for inner city youth;
    • We will also assist many of those that are mental and/or physically challenged.

    I am asking you to please join me in this opportunity with the Downtown Rescue Mission to break the cycle of homelessness.

    Below I am listing six ways that you can help me with this.

    1. Be a Captain and recruit your own team.
    2. Be a Player ... we will help you find a team if necessary.
    3. Be a non-playing Captain…Recruit one golfer (who in turn would recruit 3 other golfers) and help the team raise money by also sending out 50 letters and brochures. You would be just as eligible to achieve the Individual gifts and prizes.
    4. Be a Hole Sponsor.
    5. Free Goods or Services. We would welcome you or your company to provide goods or services that we could use as gifts at the tournament.
    6. Recruit other golfers to be Captains or Players.

    Please consider prayerfully how you will respond to this request, I can not stress how important this to DRM at this time.
