Pastors Prayer Summit - Strategic Focus:
Please note that the quarterly city-wide Pastors Prayer Summit for the month of January will meet at a special time (11:30am) and location (Progressive Union Missionary Baptist) to enable a time for pastors to meet for prayer with a strategic focus including our city, community, and nation. With the quarterly summit occurring the day before MLK's actual birthday (1/15), and the week before the inauguration of our first African-American president (who was elected 40 years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.), our nation is at significant moment which we will under gird in prayer. May we fulfill the biblical mandate of 1 Tim 2:1-2 (even when differences in perspective, party, or policy).
Please join us for this strategic time at 11:30am Wednesday January 14th, 2009 at Progressive Union MBC (link to map below).

PROJECT DIALOGUE
Where Religion, Psychology, and Health Intersect
A collaborative program for those in the healing and helping fields
Wednesday, January 14, 12:00 – 1:15
Faith Presbyterian Church (5003 Whitesburg Drive)
(S.E. Corner of the Intersection of Carl T. Jones and Whitesburg Drive)
Our Theme:
“Our Response to the Wellness Revolution: Hope or Suspicion?”
Explore the Spiritual, Psychological, and Health Perspectives
On the Common Yearning to be “Hale, Hearty and Whole” …
and learn ways to know when it is “well with one’s soul.”
“Wellness,” often profiled as a worldwide revolution, is a $500 billion industry involving scientists, fitness providers, business, food manufacturers, and doctors in a common focus on disease prevention and anti-aging. The need for wellness has expanded due to declining health trends, particularly the rising obesity rate in the U.S. and other developed nations. Medical costs now exceed profits for most large employers, and corporations recognize that wellness and disease prevention are viable solutions to rising healthcare costs that threaten their very existence. Yet many remain suspicious of this “revolution of hope,” wary of the “hype” of many of its’ claims.
In the midst of these conflicting trends, we who serve as spiritual, psychological, and health care-providers choose to gather to discuss some essential underlying questions:
• What does it mean to be “well?”
• Can we have illness and still be well?
• What blocks wellness?
• What steps do the most to further wellness?
• What role do our emotions, thoughts, and spirits have in building wellness into our lives?
Bring your insights and expertise as we come to the table to dialogue!
PRESENTERS:
Earla Lockhart, Staff Minister for Congregational Care, First Missionary Baptist Church
Jane Orton, LCSW, Clinical Director, National Children's Advocacy Center
