Veteran's Day Prayer Breakfast - YMCA |
|
Greater Huntsville Veteran's Day Prayer Breakfast
November 10th
Mike Taylor recently “retired” from 18 years of youth ministry and is now serving through the YMCA. One of his areas of focus includes creating points of contact and building bridges between the Y and our community. Mike is helping host a Prayer Breakfast on Friday, November 10th in honor of our Veterans and current military. The main emphasis of this time is to specifically pray for and support the families of Redstone’s 128th MP Division that is commissioned for Iraq.
Tickets are available for $25 each which entitles the purchaser to attend the breakfast and host one family member from the 128th. In addition, tables are available (seating for 8) for $100 which would seat 4 attendees and 4 family members.
If you would like tickets or for more information, please contact Mike as follows:

Marriage Savers Greater Huntsville!
February 2nd - 3rd, 2007
Madison County divorce rate is more than 50% higher than the U.S. average, which is 500 divorces per 1000 marriages. We have 771 divorces per 1000 marriages, a divorce rate of 77.1%. The Marriage Savers (www.marriagesavers.org) strategy has been instituted in over 200 communities in the past 10 years and has significantly enriched marriages and prevented divorces in these communities (see web site above for more information).
According to the Heritage Foundation, “A well executed community marriage covenant can save up to 80% of marriages headed for divorce, reconcile more than 50% of separate couples, enable 80% of step families to be successful parents and marriage partners” |

About Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF)
Home | Purpose | Statement of Faith | History
Please be aware of several CEF opportunities for Christians in our local area:
- CEF is accepting applications for summer missionaries in the local
area to teach the Bible to unchurched children during the summer for 5
days a week using visualized flashcard lessons and songs. Teens from
across Alabama go to Montgomery first in early June for 9 days to
prepare to teach the lessons and counsel children for salvation. Call CEF at 536-3239 to learn more.
- CEF invites churches to partner to reach school children with the
gospel by having an after-school Good News Club in local schools. E-mail cef@stulting.com to request a free DVD explaining and
demonstrating this program.

Red Cross Shelter - Volunteer Opportunity
|
|
Dear Potential Volunteer,
The Governor of Alabama has mandated that two year community colleges across the state be opened as evacuation shelters in the event of a major hurricane in the Southeast. The American Red Cross has agreed to support the state in the operation of these shelters. The state will provide the facilities and associated support and the Red Cross will manage and staff the shelters. The Madison/Marshall County Chapter has the responsibility of managing four potential shelters; J.F Drake, Calhoun (Huntsville), Snead and Northeast Community Colleges. Shelter operations in these four community colleges will require a significant number of Red Cross volunteers (potentially 25-50 per shelter) and even more if we need to open overflow shelters.
We need your help in meeting this requirement. We need volunteers with or without sheltering experience. For those who have not been trained to work in shelters we will provide shelter training.
Attached is the position description for shelter workers and training requirements. It is a demanding job; however it is a rewarding job to know that you have helped not only your community, but others that may shelter from a devastated area. I am sure it is fresh in your memory the cries for help from residents impacted by Hurricane Katrina. We are being pro active in working with the State of Alabama to help before another hurricane strikes or a disaster impacts our Madison County community.
If you would like to help, please provide your name, phone number and address to your church office (or directly to the Red Cross by contacting Shirley Crutcher, shirley@helpcantwait.org or (256) 536-0084). By doing this your name will be given to the Madison/Marshall County Red Cross and we will provide you with the information regarding registration, training and/or answer any questions you may have.
Thanks for your support,
Joe Sims
