10 Days of Fervent Prayer – 1 Day of Global Prayer – 90 Days of Compassion and Outreach

THANK YOU to all who were part of the GDOP Huntsville Stadium event at Joe Davis June 4th for your impromptu flexibility and being "instant in season and out of season" with the shift inside requested with the weather during the afternoon. It really turned out to be a surprising and yet VERY special and powerful time once gathering together in united prayer in the more intimate setting. THANK YOU for persevering and continuing in prayer!

You cannot help but smile reflecting - the LORD is good - and the rain certainly served His unique purpose for us ... not just for nature :)

The incredible opportunity continues for us as the Christian Community of Greater Huntsville as we transition into the GDOP 90 Days of Compassion and Outreach to bless the city! ... PLEASE see details and information below!

GDOP Area-Wide Governing Board: Jerry Crutcher - GHIMF Social Action Chair, Pastor Little Indian Creek PBC; Paul Lawler - GHPPS Torchbearer, Pastor Chase Valley UMC; Wendell Thompson - GHIMF Vice-Pres, Pastor Owens Chapel MBC; Terrell Harris - COGIC Superintendent, Pastor True Light COGIC; Rob Peavy - Church and Community Ministry Director, Madison Baptist Association; Robert Somerville - City-Wide Coordinator Christ Our Passover; Charlotte Wycoffe - former City-Wide Coordinator March for Jesus; Chad Rehnburg - City-Wide Youth Pastors Fellowship, Student Minister; Ben Jones - Pastor First Seventh Day Adventist Church; Thom Ewing - WAY-FM Station Manager; Tom Rains - C12 Chair

The Global Day of Prayer Strategy is three-fold:

10 Days of Fervent Prayer – 1 Day of Global Prayer – 90 Days of Compassion and Outreach

90 Days of Compassion and Outreach - Blessing Our City!
The 90 days following the Global Day of Prayer will include area-wide initiatives of compassion and mercy to areas of community need. This will include four strategic city-wide initiatives in addition to many joint endeavors where multiple churches and organizations come together to focus in an area of shared burden and vision.

The 90 days of compassion and community service to areas of recognized need will include a varitey of joint efforts soon to be posted from neighborhood revitalization, food distribution, and specific focus in 2006 including education and the schools.

90 Days of Compassion and Outreach

Community Transformation Initiatives
Greater Huntsville & Madison County Area

Multiple outreach opportunities are being coordinated through local participating churches/ministries and represent the beginning of a 5-year plan to serve and bless our communities.

TOGETHER ...
May we WASH THE FEET OF OUR CITY!

GDOP Flyer
90 Days of Compassion

GDOP Area-Wide Compassion Coalition "Ground Zero" - Colonial Hills!

The purpose is to connect, unite, and focus joint compassion and outreach efforts in our community over these 90 days for the greatest impact together.

If you, your congregation, ministry, or organization has compassion or outreach efforts in the community during these 90 days (and invite partnership of other congregations or ministries to join you), please let us know (please provide contact and information online here 90 Days - Involvement or by email info@MissionHuntsville.org or phone or fax: 1-877-878-5902, toll free - area calling not required).

While joint efforts among congregations will be occurring throughout the city during these 90 days, the emerging strategy for the 90 Days of Compassion and Outreach includes a area-wide focus to target a specific geographic area (undergirding and lifting the arms of those ministries God has planted in that area), with the intent for something lasting to emerge (or be enlarged) and sustained locally once the area-wide focus completes.

This year the area-wide geographic focus will be Colonial Hills (the neighborhood, congregations, and schools), which will serve as our "Ground Zero" for the initial compassion efforts of theses 90 days (working outward) - whether community service, food distribution, neighborhood revitalization (roofing, repair homes, etc.), block parties and outreach, etc.

GDOP - Consider the promises and the possibility!

The Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) - 10 days of fervent prayer, and 1 day public stadium event, and 90 days of compassion - provides a powerful and unique opportunity to unite passion for God (expressed through prayer), and compassion for people (expressed through the 90 days) ... a very tangible expression of our desire to love God, and love our neighbor.

Consider the possibility, for together, the promises of PRAYER and FASTING coupled with COMPASSION and JUSTICE are staggering - May the LORD confirm His Word in our city!

"Is not this the fast that I have chosen? ... is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him ...

THEN
shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward ...

And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul ...

THEN
shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day ... And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."

SELAH!
(Isa 58:6-11)

Bridging the Nations - Huntsville/Mombassa

A Tale of Two Cities and One God
Mombassa, Kenya - Huntsville, Alabama

July 2005 was the first time the Moslem government of Mombassa allowed a Christian church to use the municipal soccer stadium. Both Joseph Maisha (Mombassa, Kenya) and Doug Wever (Huntsville, Alabama) were there just three months after being in Joe Davis Stadium here in Huntsville for GDOP 2005 – there was a real sense of spiritual continuity.

That move of God continues: This year, Doug Wever (Huntsville, AL) will again introduce Joseph (Mombassa, Kenya) at Joe Davis stadium as part of GDOP 2006; then, exactly three Sundays later, Brother Joseph will introduce Brother Doug to what is projected to be an overflow crowd at Mombassa Municipal Stadium. In Mombassa, we are asking God for a tithe of the 1.2 million people in the city to come to Christ. Let us join our faith in Huntsville for the same move of God.

(Left) Doug getting ready to preach to 21,000 in Mbeya Tanzania, October ’05. Praying for him are Joseph Maisha, Pres. Kenya Baptist Convention; and, Harry Mwasanjala, Pres. Tanzania Baptist Convention. Not pictured is Kamwela Eleyazar, Bishop of the Charismatic Fellowship of Churches.

Pastor/President Joseph Maisha (Mombassa Kenya) serves as pastor of the 15,000 Member Ushindi Baptist Church, as the President of the Kenya Baptist Convention, and as the Chairman of the Fellowship of Baptists in East Africa, leading the convention presidents of Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, The Congo, and Sudan, and as the Chairman of the Board, East Africa Bible Institute serving seven East African Countries. He is a general in prayer and he and his congregation are a testament of God's faithfulness to hear the fervent prayer of His people. He will be a special ambassador to Huntsville from Africa during our 2006 GDOP Huntsville 10 Days of Prayer and public stadium event at Joe Davis.

NOW, the story continues ...
Mombassa, Kenya - Huntsville, Alabama

Teams from the Greater Huntsville area, including both medical missions teams to serve the Mombassa area (a largely Muslim population) and leadership to be part of two City-Wide Evangelistic Outreaches from the Mombassa Municipal Soccer Stadium, left Huntsville Friday June 16th for Kenya.

Medical Teams
Volunteer teams from the medical community of Huntsville will serve over the next week before having to return. Please be in prayer for the LORD to give wisdom and insight into the great needs within the city and surrounding area, as many thousands are drawn when the medical services are available.

Leadership Team
Two city-wide evangelistic outreaches will occur in the Mombassa Soccer Stadium Saturday June 24th and Sunday June 25th. with Doug Wever (of Huntsville-based 2T31) and Joseph Maisha (pastor Ushindi Baptist Church, Mombassa) part of the primary leadership with area Mombassa/Kenyan pastors and leaders. Doug and Joseph were part of the GDOP Huntsville leadership through the Ten Days of Prayer and GDOP Huntsville stadium event, and now are in Mombassa exactly three Sundays later for for city-wide initiatives in what is quickly becoming a sister city to Huntsville, bringing the nations and the continents. Please be in prayer for these unique opportunities - an unprecedented door of opportunity in this Muslim city. Note the stadium events will begin at 4pm (8am CST in Huntsville), with individual prayer and invitation extended around 6pm (10am CST in Huntsville).

Please be aware of the following information regarding trainings that coincide with 2-year colleges being designated as Hurricane Evacuation Shelters. The Red Cross is hosting several training classes at the colleges listed. It is also open to churches, and Red Cross partner agencies and organizations. The training includes the Introduction to Disaster (normally 3 hours), Mass Care an Overview (normally 3 hours) and Shelter Operations which will be the full 3-hours. They have modified Intro & the Mass Care to 2 hours and so the full training is about 5 hours. You are encouraged to forward this information to churches or those who may be interested. Additional questions may be answered through Shirley Crutcher, American Red Cross - Madison/Marshall County Chapter, (256) 536-0084.

The American Red Cross Southeast Service Area 8 is hosting Shelter Operation Training to recruit volunteers and community groups to attend a shelter training.

The Red Cross opens shelters during hurricane evacuations in areas where individuals and families will be safe from the most intense storms. In times of large mass evacuations, such as when a hurricane is approaching the coastline, large numbers of persons may be seeking shelter. The Red Cross symbol represents safety, security and comfort to those seeking shelter. We are conducting Shelter Operations Training to ensure there are adequate numbers of trained personnel to staff shelters. You do not need to register to attend the training session and it is a free training.

Class participants do not need to make a reservation to attend a session, and all disaster classes are free. All community volunteers, organizations, and churches are welcome to attend the session that is most convenient. All sessions will be from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Certificates for successful completion of the training will be issued. The Madison/Marshall Chapter request participants in the training to contact the local Chapter at 256-536-0084 ext. 310.

Pearlington Trips - Teams and Volunteers

When the walls of Jerusalem fell, Nehemiah began to rebuild the walls one brick at a time. The people told him to come down from the wall, that he was wasting his time. He said he could not, he would not come down for he was doing a great thing for the Lord. At times we feel like our efforts in Pearlington, Mississippi are so small when compared to the amount of destruction that has been done by Hurricane Katrina. But when we think of Nehemiah, each supply drive, each mission trip, each plea for help that we make becomes one more brick of hope as we REBUILD PEARLINGTON....one brick at time.
