Safe at Home Announcement and Free Movie Screening (Monday January 9th, 2006) |
Special Invitation to Greater Huntsville Pastors from Scott Dawson and Area Leaders
There is a growing desire among area leaders to build on the momentum of last year's tremendous Safe at Home evangelistic outreach at Joe Davis Stadium (see http://www.missionhuntsville.org/updates/20050813.htm#msg2)
The following letter was mailed to all the pastors and churches in the community as a special invitation to area pastors to a free movie screening of "End of the Spear" (www.endofthespear.com)and Safe at Home kick-off meeting. Please also forward this information to any ministry colleagues who would be interested.
Actual Letter with Signatures (PDF)
Dear Pastor:
Occasionally an extraordinary opportunity comes our way that needs to be taken advantage of by as many individuals as possible. Together we want to share with you such an occasion. Safe at Home with Scott Dawson is an event that successfully partners the thrill of Minor League Baseball with the strength of local churches to produce a post game event with music and a message that changes lives. The Huntsville Stars will host a Safe At Home event at Joe Davis Stadium on Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2006.
To kick off the preparation for this event we as pastors and leaders have the exclusive opportunity to attend a morning to learn about Safe At Home and view a pre-screening of an upcoming major motion picture.
SAFE AT HOME KICK OFF
FREE PRE-SCREENING OF
“END OF THE SPEAR”
MONDAY, JANUARY 9, 2006
9:00A.M. – NOON
REGAL HOLLYWOOD 18
3312 SOUTH MEMORIAL PARKWAY
HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA 35802
We would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to a morning that could be used to impact your entire congregation! The meeting will have a two-pronged emphasis. First, you will be introduced to the benefits of participating in this event and the steps necessary to effectively prepare for Safe At Home.
Second, you will be our guest for a private screening of the new film, “End of the Spear.” This film could have a missionary impact like we have never seen in Christendom. If you have read Elisabeth Elliot’s book, “Beyond the Gates”, you are familiar with this story. On January 20th this film will open nationwide and we want the churches to know what is on the horizon. Materials will be available for you and your church to learn how you can be involved. Those who have personally seen this film have been moved by it.
Once again, we want to personally invite you to join us and other leaders across Huntsville as we invest a morning that we all pray bring eternal rewards. We look forward to meeting you soon.
Thank you for your service in the Kingdom and be assured we stand with you!
Blessings,
Scott Dawson, Pastor Murray Wilton, Pastor Rusty Nelson, Rev John R. Long, Rev Jerry L. Crutcher, Pastor Robert Somerville

Host Ministry Highlight
Downtown Rescue Mission |
|
|
The Downtown Rescue Mission is a place of refuge for those who find themselves homeless and on the streets of our community. Whether it is a man, a woman or a child, they can find a warm meal and a safe place to stay. Since 1975, the homeless have been coming through our doors and finding help and hope for their problems.
Rescue missions for many years worked with mostly the old chronic alcoholic. But in the 70's, a new homeless population began to appear. Some of these new people on the streets had been in mental institutions. Others were coming because of the many new drugs that were invading our communities. Many were younger but still had potential to lead successful lives. Missions had to grow to meet those needs. Many new programs such as discipleship, GED, computer training and life skills were added to the Mission's outreach to the community.
In the early 80's another new group began to appear. Women and children began to show up at our doors looking for a place to stay. This group has been the fastest growing area of homelessness in America since that time. Missions again stepped forward and started working with this group of homeless people.
These changes have forced us to continue expanding our outreach and our budgets to meet the ever-increasing needs of our community. Huntsville and the surrounding areas have funded our programs and our expansion. DRM depends totally on our Lord's provisions through our faithful donors because we do not receive any federal, state, county or city funds.
I want to personally thank all of you who have prayed and given of your time, talents and donations to this worthy outreach. Help us to continue to be the place that has "A Heart For The Homeless", a place that touches hundreds of lives everyday.
In His service,

Dr. Darwin D. Overholt
Executive Director/Pastor
