GDOP Governing Board Leader of the City-Wide Guiding Coalition |
|
James Humphreys, Senior Chaplain of Oakwood College, served with us on the Governing Board of the City-Wide Guiding Coalition providing key leadership in helping to guide, shape, and define the Global Day of Prayer efforts to be truly representative of the Christian Community of Greater Huntsville.
Chaplain Humphreys' passion for Jesus, devotion to prayer, commitment to his family and the students of Oakwood College, and heart for the Christian community to join together for the sake of advancing the Kingdom was a testimony to us all, and even those who only met him in recent months were profoundly impacted by his life and example.
It is always difficult to lose such generals of faith, but what burning and shining testimony when one finishes his course in such a way. May the LORD give great comfort in this time of such loss, yet also joy in the hope that comes through Jesus Christ.
We honor the life and ministry of James Edwin Humphreys ...

James Edwin Humphreys
Pastor, Youth Director, and Chaplain
May 20, 1956 - May 1, 2005
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Tim 4:7-8) |
Tribute
OUR DAD was a great person. He was loving and kind. Everywhere he went he saved people's lives through his preaching. He loved Oakwood, especially the students.
We always felt safe around him because he was a praying man who loved God. He was close to God and loved his family more than anything. He always wanted to spend time with us, playing basketball, building model cars, and just talking -- being his son was the greatest gift.
Our father loved our mother. You could tell by how they treated each other. He would always say, "I love you" and they never kept secrets. The first thing every morning, and the last thing every night was family worship. Our Dad worshipped God first, and we, his sons, do too.
